How to Play the Serengeti
Play for the altitude
At ~1,500m elevation, expect 5-10% more carry than at sea level. Your 7-iron 150m shot becomes 160-165m. Club down accordingly, especially into greens.
Respect the wind
The Serengeti has consistent prevailing winds from the south-east, strongest in the afternoon. Morning rounds are calmer. Holes 12-14 play directly into the wind.
Target the centre
Greens are well-defended but generous. Hitting the middle of the green and two-putting for par is smarter than attacking flags near edges where wildlife trails create uneven lies.
Use the firm fairways
In dry season (June-October), fairways are fast and firm. Plan for 20-30m of roll on well-struck drives. Consider 3-wood or hybrid off some tees for control.
Stay patient with wildlife delays
If elephants or wildebeest cross your fairway, enjoy the show. Course marshals will signal when it is safe. These moments are the whole point of being here.
Hydrate aggressively
The combination of altitude, sun, and walking 18 holes is demanding. Drink water at every tee. The clubhouse provides water stations at holes 5, 9, and 14.
