Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about golf safaris in the Serengeti — from equipment and course access to visas and booking.
The Golf Course
Can I bring my own golf clubs?
Yes, you can bring your own clubs. However, for fly-in safaris with strict luggage limits (15-20kg on bush planes), we recommend renting. The pro shop stocks TaylorMade M6 and Callaway Rogue sets in excellent condition. Rental includes a full set, bag, and unlimited practice balls.
What is the dress code on the course?
The course maintains a smart-casual dress code: collared polo shirts, tailored shorts or trousers (no denim), and soft-spike golf shoes. Metal spikes are not permitted. A golf cap or wide-brimmed hat is encouraged for sun protection.
Is the course open year-round?
The course operates year-round with potential temporary closures during heavy rains in March-April. The prime season is June through October (dry season), when fairways are firm and conditions are championship-standard. We recommend booking your golf safari for this window.
How do wildlife encounters work during a round?
Wildlife roams freely across the course — there are no fences. Trained course rangers accompany every group and maintain safe distances. If elephants or wildebeest cross your fairway, you wait for them to pass. These moments are the unique magic of playing the Serengeti. Local rules provide free relief for any lie affected by wildlife activity.
What is the course difficulty like?
The course is a Par 72, 7,065m championship layout with a course rating of 73.2 and slope of 132 from the championship tees. Multiple tee boxes accommodate all levels. The altitude (~1,500m) adds 5-10% distance to shots, and wind can be a factor on the back nine.
Booking & Logistics
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season (July-September), we recommend booking 6-12 months ahead. Shoulder season (June, October-November) requires 3-6 months notice. Green season can often be arranged with 4-8 weeks lead time. Corporate events and tournaments require 12+ months planning.
What is included in a golf safari package?
All our packages include green fees, caddie fees, shared golf cart, airport transfers, safari game drives with professional guides, full-board accommodation at luxury lodges, internal flights (for fly-in packages), park entrance fees, and 24/7 on-ground support. International flights and travel insurance are not included.
Can I customize my itinerary?
Absolutely. Every golf safari is tailored to your preferences. You can choose the number of golf rounds, safari destinations, lodge grade, group size, and add extensions like Zanzibar beach stays, Ngorongoro Crater visits, or hot air balloon rides. Contact us with your wish list and we will design the perfect trip.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled 60+ days before departure. 50% refund for 30-59 days. No refund within 30 days. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering cancellation, medical evacuation, and trip interruption. We can recommend specialist safari insurance providers.
Travel Requirements
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Most nationalities require a visa. Citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and many other countries can obtain an e-visa online at visa.immigration.go.tz before travel, or a visa on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Processing takes 3-5 business days online. Cost is approximately $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa.
What vaccinations do I need?
Yellow Fever vaccination is required if arriving from an endemic country. Recommended (but not mandatory from non-endemic origins): Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Polio boosters. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended — consult your travel medicine clinic 6-8 weeks before departure.
How do I get to the course?
Most guests fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From there, we arrange a transfer to Arusha (1 hour) or a direct bush flight to the Serengeti (1.5 hours). Our fly-in packages include all internal flights. Road transfers from Arusha to the Serengeti take approximately 8 hours via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
